Spring of 2013: Arriving on PI

So I arrived at my new house on April 27th. I left Los Angeles on the red-eye the night before, after a long day of hanging out (and going to a couple of movies) while I waited for it to be time to go to the airport. The movers were supposed to arrive around 8 or 8:30A (can't remember which), but I discovered them outside when I couldn't sleep and decided to head to Starbucks at 6:30A. I pulled back in and asked them if they wanted to start early; they did, and they finished about 9A, so that was that!

It was odd saying good-bye to my old apartment... after nearly 30 years there; BUT, I think that departure was long overdue.

Anyway, when I bought the house in March, I asked the seller to leave the two full-sized beds that were there. I was thinking that this would save me the hassle of bringing beds over on the ferry. Lesson learned--I should have tried them out first!!! Well, as it turned out, I couldn't sleep on either of them -- one was way to hard (I like a firm bed, but I also have my limits!) and the other one sagged horribly on one side. So, both went to the dump (where I paid for their disposal) and 2 more came over on the ferry. What an ordeal it was to get the mattress company to deliver and place them on the ferry (fortunately, they were wrapped in plastic as it was a windy day with lots of spray) and then to get someone to pick them up at the ferry landing and deliver them to my house. We got it done, though!

I soon discovered that the north front bedroom has a wonderful view (in the winter time when there's no leaves on the trees) of the Mt. Hope Bridge. My guests will enjoy that view; however, because my bedroom is the south front one, I don't get to enjoy it. Once the lot next door is cleared (that's been delayed until November), it may be a year-round view -- which would be terrific.

0 Governor Paine Closing

Well, I'm finally getting around to setting up this blog so that I can share the progress at "Hope Cottage" (Susie Reid says I have to name my home, so that name seemed fitting). So, I'm sitting in Starbucks in Barrington, RI -- after a dentist appointment (I broke a tooth at the Ice Cream Social a couple weeks ago on some frozen M&Ms).

Today at 1PM, we close on my purchase of the lot next door. It's exciting that I'll now be able to have a garden right outside my kitchen door (well, really, a few feet from it). Pictures will follow. Billy Silvia is set to begin clearing the property as soon as the papers are signed--that will open up my view to the north and I'm looking forward to seeing just how far I'll be able to see once the trees in the front of the lot are down.
More soon,

Hope
